Augusta man arrested by Aiken County Sheriff’s Office for criminal sexual conduct with minor

An Augusta man was recently arrested by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Michael Thompson, 34, was arrested Nov. 22. On Sept. 7, a deputy had responded to a call about a sexual assault. A woman stated that her 5-year-old daughter had been assaulted by Thompson about a month before. According to police reports, the woman learned of the alleged assault after family members noticed that the minor victim became uncomfortable when they talked to Thompson on FaceTime, after which they began asking her questions about her relationship with him.
